Learning Cities: Frankston launches free online tutor for students

Library.jpgLearning has become a whole lot easier for students, parents and teachers Frankston-wide with the  introduction of YourTutor, a free innovative online tutoring service provided by Frankston Learning City and Frankston Library Service.

YourTutor provides students with instant access to qualified, expert teachers for one-to-one help with homework, assignments, exam preparation and study questions.

Best of all students can log in when they need it most, from 4:00pm-8:00pm, Monday to Friday. Help is immediate, professional and secure. The tutorial offers students help with various subjects on the curriculum for student’s in Year 4 – 12.

Council’s Library and Learning Manager, Beck Henshall said “the online tutor program has been a very useful learning medium to enhance student’s research skills on the internet as well as directly support them with any questions they have with their school work”.


The program asks for feedback before student’s log out and here are some examples of students’ comments:

Year 5 student the yourtutor program is terrific I would really and most definitely recommend and use it.
Year 6 student Fantastic I can see me using this lots when my parents aren’t home.
Year 7 student This will help me when mum is going crazy! Lol.
Year 8 student My mum is so pleased with this service. She is really excited because she could not help me.

The online tutor program was implemented 8 weeks ago and has already assisted over 90 student’s improve their learning outcomes – this is an example of Frankston Learning City in action!

It’s easy to use - students simply connect to www.frankston.vic.gov.au/library and click on the yourtutor link at the top of the page to access the program.
It’s designed so that students will feel right at home with an instant messenger style set-up, which makes the experience enjoyable as well as educational.
The new service forms part of Council’s Learning City Strategy to provide increased learning opportunities which enable all our students to get the help they need to succeed at school, regardless of their circumstances.
